Medichat didn't start in a boardroom. It started with a problem no doctor should have to watch helplessly — and one who refused to.
The Origin
During his internship training at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau, Zamfara State, Dr. Osinachi Nwatu witnessed firsthand what most Nigerians know too well — a healthcare system stretched far beyond its limits. Patient influx was immense, wards were congested, and doctors were overwhelmed before the day had even begun.
As a young doctor, Dr. Nwatu was burdened by this reality every single day. He didn't just observe the problem — he carried it home, turning it over in his mind, constantly searching for a solution that could make a real difference in the system he had committed his career to.

The Journey
FMC Gusau, Zamfara State
As an intern, Dr. Nwatu experienced the crushing weight of hospital congestion daily. High patient influx with limited structured intake meant critical cases were often delayed. The burden of this problem became a constant companion.
Nnewi, Anambra State
The opportunity arrived when Dr. Nwatu attended Startup Weekend Nnewi — a tech entrepreneurship programme hosted by the Anambra State Government. For the first time, he had a stage to pitch the idea that had lived in his mind since those overwhelming days at FMC Gusau.
First Runner-Up 🏆
The pitch resonated. Medichat emerged as First Runner-Up at Startup Weekend Nnewi — validation that the idea was not just personal, but essential. A healthcare system problem had found its technology solution.
The Mission Continues
Since that day, Dr. Osinachi and the Medichat co-founders have been on a relentless journey to actualize this vision — building AI-powered tools that make Nigeria's health system smarter, faster, and more equitable for every patient and every doctor.
To reduce preventable harm caused by unstructured patient intake — making every clinical interaction faster, safer, and smarter.
A Nigeria where no patient waits in a congested corridor simply because information wasn't captured well enough — and no doctor burns out doing work that technology can support.
Patient safety above all. Clinical accuracy without compromise. Technology that serves people — not the other way around.
We're building a team as passionate about healthcare as we are.
